Getting Started
This guide walks you through installing CometMIDI, launching the application, and creating your account.
Installation
Section titled “Installation”Windows
Section titled “Windows”- Download the CometMIDI installer from the official website
- Run the installer (
.exefile) - Launch CometMIDI from your Start menu or desktop shortcut (it should open automatically after installation)
Linux and MacOS

First Launch
Section titled “First Launch”When you first launch CometMIDI, the application automatically creates a Comet folder in your user Documents directory with three subfolders:
| Folder | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Songs | Stores converted .comet files ready for playback |
| Themes | Contains theme JSON files (built-in and custom) |
| Videos | Where recorded video exports are saved |
You can view and access these folder paths anytime in Settings → General.
Main Menu Overview
Section titled “Main Menu Overview”The Main Menu is your central hub for all CometMIDI features:

| Play | Select a song and configure visualization settings |
| Convert | Transform MIDI files (.mid) into CometMIDI format (.comet) |
| Theme Editor | Create and edit custom themes (future feature) |
| Settings | Configure application preferences and account |
Additional controls:
- Profile — Access your account settings (top right)
- Quit — Close the application
Creating an Account
Section titled “Creating an Account”An account is required to use certain features like MIDI conversion.
Sign Up
Section titled “Sign Up”- Click Login from the Main Menu
- Click “Sign up” at the bottom of the login form
- Enter your desired username (3-20 characters, letters/numbers/underscores only)
- Enter your email address
- Create a password (minimum 8 characters, must contain letters and numbers)
- Click Sign Up
- Check your email and verify your account
- Click Login from the Main Menu
- Enter your registered email and password
- Click Login
Tip: After logging in, CometMIDI remembers your session. You won’t need to log in again unless you explicitly log out.
Access Tiers
Section titled “Access Tiers”CometMIDI offers two access levels:

| Free | 30 conversions/month, watermark on recordings, staggered access to new features |
| Full Access | Unlimited conversions, no watermark, get latest features first |
Manage your subscription in Settings → Profile → Manage Subscription.
