Getting Started

This guide walks you through installing CometMIDI, launching the application, and creating your account.

Installation

Windows

1. Download the CometMIDI installer from the official website
2. Run the installer (.exe file)
3. Follow the installation wizard prompts
4. Launch CometMIDI from your Start menu or desktop shortcut

Note: Windows may show a SmartScreen warning for first-time installations. Click “More info” → “Run anyway” to proceed.

First Launch

When you first launch CometMIDI, the application automatically creates a Comet folder in your user Documents directory with three subfolders:

Folder	Purpose
Songs	Stores converted .comet files ready for playback
Themes	Contains theme JSON files (built-in and custom)
Videos	Where recorded video exports are saved

You can view and access these folder paths anytime in Settings → General.

Main Menu Overview

The Main Menu is your central hub for all CometMIDI features:

Button	Description
Play	Select a song and configure visualization settings
Convert	Transform MIDI files (.mid) into CometMIDI format (.comet)
Themes	Browse and manage installed themes
Settings	Configure application preferences and account

Additional controls:

• Profile — Access your account settings (top navigation)
• Quit — Close the application

Creating an Account

An account is required to use certain features like MIDI conversion.

Sign Up

1. Click Login from the Main Menu
2. Click “Sign up” at the bottom of the login form
3. Enter your desired username (3-20 characters, letters/numbers/underscores only)
4. Enter your email address
5. Create a password (minimum 8 characters, must contain letters and numbers)
6. Click Sign Up
7. Check your email and verify your account

Login

1. Click Login from the Main Menu
2. Enter your registered email and password
3. Click Login

Tip: After logging in, CometMIDI remembers your session. You won’t need to log in again unless you explicitly log out.

Subscription Tiers

CometMIDI offers different access levels:

Tier	Features
Play Only (Free)	Play and visualize existing .comet files
Full Access (Pro)	All features including MIDI conversion
Dev	Developer access with all features

Manage your subscription in Settings → Profile → Manage Subscription.
